Marion Memorial ends the race

December 6, 2017 BY

The very last Marion Coles Memorial Tournament was held at the picturesque Point Lonsdale Tennis courts on Melbourne Cup Day, just as it has for the past 30 years.

Over 60 people took to the green for the tournament, held in honour of a much-loved and dedicated Point Lonsdale member.

Players of all experience levels competed in the popular changing partner’s playing format, with many donning fascinators to celebrate the race that stops the nation, all in the name of good fun as the tournament now goes into a graceful retirement.

As always, catering and organisation was topnotch, the Cup sweeps proved very popular and there was still a special camaraderie among the players, many of whom have supported the event for a long time.

Tennis in Geelong took photos throughout the tournament, while taking in the atmosphere too, typified by the many happy snaps taken.

Anyone who took part in the tournament on the day and would like a copy of the big group photo taken or any other taken during the event, email [email protected].

What will we do on Cup Day next year?
