From The Mat – January 18, 2018
The Esplanade will be the place to be over the Australia Day weekend, with the club offering up quality entertainment, and some of it is free.
The line-up begins on Australia Day, with Levi Anderson entertaining patrons on the club deck from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.
Anderson is a Geelong-based singer/songwriter who performs predominantly riffy style acoustic originals around Geelong, Melbourne and the Surf Coast … and this one is free.
On the Saturday night the brilliant Gypsy, a group specialising in Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac sounds will put on their nationally renowned show from 8.30pm to midnight.
The band has been performing since 2006, bringing their remarkable sound to top venues in Melbourne and interstate.
Michael Balcombe on guitar gives the driving edge, and delivers the famous riffs and sounds so recognisable with Lindsey Buckingham, while Chris Smith brings his amazing talent, on bass and stunning vocals.
Julee Johnson is perfect as Christine McVie and Peta Clegg is stunning in her adaptation of Stevie Nicks.
The drive and energy of Greg Latham on drums completes the show, capturing the essence of what makes Fleetwood Mac the huge success they continue to be today.
Tickets for the show are available at the club, costing $30 for members and $35 for non-members.
Meanwhile, on the greens the pointy end of the season is upon us, with pennant teams vying for finals berths, the Twilighters going from strength to strength and barefooters taking to the greens in amazing numbers.
For anyone interested in barefoot bowling, a booking is now essential to ensure there is sufficient green space. Please phone the club on 5261 2378 to make a booking or the enquire about club events. And remember that the club is open seven days over the holidays season, but the greens are closed on Mondays.
