Miers inks new deal with Cats

GEELONG Cats forward Gryan Miers has been rewarded for his excellent form this season, signing a three-year contract extension today (Monday, July 10).

The 24-year-old, who plays his 100th AFL game against Essendon this Saturday night, has enjoyed a career-best season in 2023, averaging 19.25 disposals and 1.75 goal assists per game.

Today’s announcement, which will see the premiership player stay in Geelong until at least the end of 2026, follows his career-high 32 disposals against North Melbourne yesterday (Sunday, July 9).

This season, Miers’ role in Geelong’s forward line has come to the fore with a league-leading 28 goal assists, while he also sitsg in the top 10 for score involvements with 110.

Despite a delayed start to his 2022 campaign due to a syndesmosis injury, Miers managed to build form and consistency throughout the year and was rewarded with his first AFL Premiership.

Geelong Cats Head of List Management Andrew Mackie said the club was thrilled to see Miers commit for another three years.

“Gryan is part of a very exciting, hard-working and talented group of young players coming through our AFL program,” Mackie said.

“Gryan has proven to be a very important player in our attacking half of the ground, he is a selfless footballer and a player who creates plenty of scoring opportunities.

“We are very pleased that he will be with us for at least the next three years.”
