Moody joins Geelong Venom

GEELONG Venom has strengthened its coaching ranks with the appointment of Megan Moody as assistant coach for the upcoming WNBL season.

Fresh from being named NBL1 South Coach of the Year, after steering Geelong United’s women to a standout campaign, Moody adds proven expertise to the Venom program.

Alongside her on-court achievements, Moody currently serves as the general manager of pathways at Geelong United Basketball.

The move into the WNBL, she said, represented both a personal and professional milestone.

“When I first stepped into the NBL1 role, I honestly didn’t know if I was ready or if coaching was where I wanted to be again, but that season really reignited my passion. I loved working with the group, and the players made it such a rewarding experience.

“Being part of both the pathways side of the sport and now the elite level, gives me a unique perspective. I’m passionate about creating opportunities for players in our region to see what’s possible, and the Venom are a huge part of that vision.”

Geelong United Basketball chief executive officer Mark Neeld said Moody’s appointment was a natural step in her coaching journey.

“To see her now progress into the WNBL as an assistant coach is a terrific outcome, not only for Megan, but for our entire Geelong basketball community,” he said.

“Megan has a deep understanding of the development needs of players, and she’s passionate about creating those opportunities locally.

“Combine that with her on-court success, and you’ve got someone who represents exactly what Geelong basketball is all about — growth, opportunity and excellence.”

Geelong Venom is presently in full pre-season mode ahead of the team’s home opener against Sydney on October 18.
