THE Surf Coast Netball Association is hopeful of attracting additional players to help keep its walking netball competition alive.

The organisation is aiming to kick off a new six-week season at the start of term three, with matches to be played on a Thursday night at Wurdi Baierr Stadium in Torquay.

Surf Coast Netball Association president Kristin Bitmead said they were looking at gaining another 5-10 players prior to commencing.

“We are really trying to foster females in sport as we know a lot of young women drop out of sport as they get to their teenage years.

“It [walking netball] is very much a social type of thing… we just want to get anyone out having a go.

“You don’t have to have played before, or you could be someone who loves the game and wants to come back but without having to run and jump around.

“We can’t wait to get it back up and going for the people who are interested.”

Walking netball is individual registration, with no set teams. Players are encouraged to just turn up and play.

The Surf Coast Netball Association is also seeking players for its junior competitions and senior ladies’ divisions.

The organisation run Net Set Go, U/9, U/11, U/13, U/15 and mixed competitions throughout both winter and summer seasons.

Due to popular demand, an U/17 competition is also being planned for the 2025-26 summer season.
