Ocean Grove to face Irrewarra in grand final
OCEAN Grove will face Irrewarra in the inaugural GCA Women’s T/20 grand final after defeating St Joseph’s in the semi-final.
St Josephs won the toss and batted first.
Ocean Grove displayed great discipline with the ball, keeping the run rate low even when they were not taking wickets.
Both Andrea Frankpitt and Alana Kot took three wickets, seeing St Josephs bowled out for 72 in the 19th over.
Kot then opened the batting with Michelle Cameron. The pair remained unbeaten and steered Ocean Grove to victory with six overs remaining.
Ocean Grove Cricket Club president Johnnie Giuffrida said while the club had been optimistic about the side at the beginning of the season, the team had still exceeded expectations.
“We knew we had a couple of good cricketers, but we didn’t think we’d do this well.
“There are girls who are relatively new to the game who have done extremely well, everyone’s done really well.”
Giuffrida also said the club’s two junior female teams meant there would be no shortage of talent coming through to the senior side in years to come.
They will face Irrewarra at South Barwon Reserve on Sunday, February 16.
The match will begin at 2pm.
