A FAST, fun and inclusive new sport is set to hit Geelong, with the region preparing to run its first ever offside tag competition later this year.

Combining elements of rugby league, union, AFL, netball and even NFL, offside tag is a unique, touch-based sport popular around the world.

“It’s pretty much a combination of all of Australia’s major sports,” competition organiser Jayden Moore said.

“It’s the perfect cross-code game because our goal was to bring players from all sports together and overall, we just want everyone to have fun it.”

Moore explained that he is building interest in the community ahead of come and try days planned for June or July.

He hopes Geelong will embrace the sport, given the huge sporting culture in the region.

“Outside of AFL and rugby league, there’s really not too much to offer down here (and) not everyone wants to play full contact footy anymore, so offside tag gives locals a new option.

“The best part about it is that it’s social, mixed, safe and still a competitive and fast-paced game.

“We wanted to create a community-focussed social sport where everyone can get together – our biggest thing and our motto is to just have fun with it.”

Those eager can fill out a registration form to express their interest in trying offside tag.
