Paris Olympics: Aussies in action on Day 5 and Day 4 results

AUSTRALIA: 6 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze

MAJOR AUSTRALIAN MEDAL HOPES

Tokyo Olympic BMX freestyle park champion Logan Martin has shown he will again be in the medal hunt after qualifying for Wednesday’s final with the third-best score. Natalya Diehm is also through to the medal round in the women’s event.

Jessica Fox guns for her second gold medal of the Games, this time in C1 where she will defend her Olympic crown.

Australia’s speed demons Kyle Chalmers, Mollie O’Callaghan and Shayne Jack chase gold in the 100m freestyle events.

The men’s and women’s triathlon races are set to be decided, pending any further delays due to water quality, with Australia’s best medal hope Matt Hauser.

MAJOR AUSTRALIANS IN ACTION

The Matildas are back in action in their crucial final group game against tournament heavyweights, Team USA, with history against them with just one win from 33 meetings.

Australia and the United States also clash in a women’s hockey pool game with the Hockeyroos looking to keept their unbeaten record intact.

Australia’s 3×3 women’s basketball team are back in action against Germany looking to bounce back after falling to Canada.

Shannan Davey (71kg men’s), Caitlin Palmer (75kg women’s) and Charlie Senior (57kg men’s) will fly the flag for the Aussie boxing team, all competing in the round of 16.

Rowers Jess Morrison and Annabelle McIntyre will hunt a spot in the medal race of the women’s pair.

WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING

Gymnastics medals will be decided in the men’s all-around with Japan looking for more podiums with two chances in the final after winning gold in the men’s team.

GOLD

Kaylee McKeown (swimming – women’s 100m backstroke) – McKeown stormed home to successfully defend her Olympic title and will eye off more golds later in the Games. Who would bet against her?

BRONZE

Australia (swimming – men’s 4x200m freestyle relay) – The boys are back in town after securing bronze in the pool, after just being edged out by the United States for silver.

OTHER HEADLINE GOLD MEDALLISTS

Daniel Wiffen made history, becoming the first Olympian from Ireland to win a gold medal in swimming since 1996 after setting an Olympic record in the men’s 800m freestyle.

Three years after stepping back from the Olympics, superstar Simone Biles led Team USA to “redemption” and reclaimed their gold medal in the women’s team gymnastics.

New Zealand defended their women’s rugby sevens gold in a surprisingly tight match against Canada, winning 19-12.

WHAT ELSE HAPPENED

Australia’s Alexei Popyrin beat multiple grand slam winner Stan Wawrinka 6-4 7-5 in his second match of the Olympic competition.

In a shock loss to the United States, Australia’s women’s rugby sevens team will be going home without a medal, after losing the bronze medal match in the final seconds 14-12.

The Kookaburras hit a massive road block in their Olympic campaign, going down to Belgium 6-2 in the men’s hockey.
