Poor wicket stumps Renegades match in Geelong

TONIGHT’S (Sunday, December 10) Big Bash League (BBL) clash between the Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers in Geelong has been abandoned one ball short of seven overs due to the poor state of the pitch at GMHBA Stadium.

Match officials ended play with the Scorchers on 2/30, following three consecutive deliveries all hitting the wicket but bouncing at different heights, the third of which was level with batter Josh Inglis’ head.

Tom Rogers and Will Sutherland took the wickets for the Renegades; Rogers with the second ball of the match.

The decision to end play marks the first time in 555 BBL games a match has been abandoned due to the state of the pitch.

The Renegades’ next game will take place at the MCG on Thursday, December 21 against the Brisbane Heat.
