Portarlington Golf Club – Febuary 1, 2018

February 1, 2018 BY

NEXT Tuesday February 6 sees the staging of the annual Barwon Cleaning Supplies Pro Am event. This will mark the event’s seventh year, with the Club picking up many awards from the PGA along the way, including PGA Regional Pro-Am of the Year and PGA Regional Course of the Year; winning both awards multiple times.

If you’re not playing, come down to the course spectator area. It’s a great way to see Australia’s best golfers in action, as well as socialise. See you there!

Tuesday January 23, Men’s Stroke
A bit blowy, but otherwise a good day for the 149 men who needed all their fingers and toes to count all shots in this stroke event. A great score of nett 63 by John Bowman (the “other” JB) topped the day and B Grade from Bernard Reed’s 65, rowdy Ralph Carnovale was best in A Grade with 68 from Brian Hazell’s 70, Henry Wasiak put in a blinder to win C Grade with 64 from John Powe’s 68, and another great score of 64 by Ken Foxcroft led the D Graders from Ian Morris with 67. The NTP’s were scored by Phil Freeman, Dennis Wood and Henry Wasiak, and Mark Anderson won the ProPin.

Wednesday January 24, Ladies Stableford
Beautiful conditions prevailed for the 66 ladies that had their day out on the golf course. Some great scores were accomplished, best of them being by Pat Peacock with 44 points, also heading the A Graders from Jill Barker’s 41. Jean Pardy was best B Grader with 40 ahead of a 37 by Dorothy Emerson, and an excellent 43 by Fran Stone topped the C Graders from Susan May’s 40. The usual culprits in Jacky Rowe and Jill Barker won the NTPs, and the ProPins went to Jill Peppard (0-25) and Christine Watson (26-45). This was also the final round of the Holiday Cup, with Heather Spry earning that honour.

Shane Myers was best of the B Graders and 2nd overall with 43, just ahead of Dave Ash on 41, Ray Hazell’s 40 won him C Grade from Bill Archer’s 38, and a 40 by Ian Morris won him D Grade by a point from Mark Gatehouse. The pinshot prizes went to Josh Kent, Craig Finnemore and Rex Johnson, and the ProPin cash was collected by Peter Steele.
