Portarlington Golf Club – March 15, 2018
ON Friday March 9, I had the pleasure of playing in the Senior Social nine-hole event for members of both genders over 50. This is a great option for some of our members who, for whatever reason don’t wish to play in 18-hole events, or are just looking for a nice laid-back game as a fine-tuner for their regular Saturday golf. It involves a 10am shotgun start, and is usually offered on the second Friday of each month, with lunch to follow the golf. All of this for just a $10 entry fee! The next one will be played on Friday April 13, entries on club website.
Tuesday March 6, Men’s Stableford
A field of 151 men enjoyed the weather and the conditions, who wouldn’t? Ken Foxcroft emerged as the winner of the day with 43 points, also leading C Grade from Colin Warren’s 39, Rod Gurney was best in A Grade with 36 on a countback from Lindsay Powell, Rob Moorcroft headed the B Graders with 40 from John Powe’s 38, and Trung Truong’s 39 got him the choccies in D Grade by a point from Eddie Legg. The NTPs were recorded by Graham Vohmann, Sam Beeston and Max Boyle, and Martin Shembrey cashed in with the ProPin.
Wednesday March 7, Ladies’ Stableford
A good field of 75 ladies swung their way around the course, with the comeback queen Angela Kiely heading all-comers with 40 points, also leading the C Graders from Pat Worsley with 34. Beth Peterson was best A Grader with 37 from Sue Plummer’s 34, and Jean Pardy topped the B Graders with 37 by a point from Jenny Champion. The NTPs were won by Pat Peacock and Judith Webber, and the ProPins by Jacky Rowe (0-25) and Chris Trezise (26-45). The Summer Plate aggregate trophy was taken home by Kaye Williams.
Saturday March 10, Men’s and Ladies’ Stableford
Another perfect day brought out 176 men and 33 ladies to enjoy their stroll around our glorious course. Top man of the day was Neil Findlay with 39 points, beating Barry Lincoln on a countback for the D Grade voucher. Best C Grader was Ian Deller with 39, beating me for the honours by a missed short putt – can anyone lend me 50 cents? Perry Gourlay won the B Grade honours, also with 39 by a point from Sean Walton, and visitor Paul Bratusa from Broadford GC beat all our A Graders with 39 by a point from Roland Williams. The pinshots were played by Ray Hazell, Bob Gibbs and Justin McGrath, and the ProPin went to Mickey McNeill. Top lady for the day was Julie Milne with 37, just pipping Beth Peterson by a point. The NTPs went to Beth and Lou Blomley, and the ProPin was collected by Lynne Kirby.
