Portarlington Golf Club – May 24, 2018
OUR ladies’ pennant teams are nearing the end of their season, with one round left to play. Unfortunately, none of them are in the frame for a premiership, but they have all experienced some success and enjoyed the experience. Our Division 1 team are sitting fourth after a strong win over Torquay last week, with Ange Foott still undefeated at this stage doing very well. Division 3’s are fighting off relegation in a very even grade, and Angela Royal with only one loss their most successful player. Division 4’s are sitting fifth, with Pat Peacock doing very well dropping only one match in five, and Division 6 also fighting off relegation this week, Cathy Strachan remaining undefeated at this stage. Good luck in your final round, ladies.
We were all very pleased to be informed of the reason why the hazard between the 2nd and 3rd fairways remained constantly wet, even with no rain for extended periods of time. A leak was discovered from a neighbouring chicken farm which has its own water line. The problem has now been rectified, so hopefully we may find the many balls that we have hit into it!
Tuesday, May 15, Men’s Stableford – Bendigo Bank Day
A pleasant change for the 127 men with a shotgun start, and all in for lunch and presentations after. Great win by my playing partner, Wayne Dixon with 43 points resulting from consistent driving and sinking a few long putts, also topping C Grade from a 38 by Ken Paterson. John Rowe headed the A Graders with 37 by a point from Dennis Wood, Peter Marshall’s 38 was best B Grade score a point clear of big hitting Bernard Reed, and Bill Randall headed D Grade with 36 a point ahead of Kas Saldukas. The NTPs were collected by Dennis Wood, Ian Davis and Brian Hazell, and the ProPin by Dennis Murphy.
Wednesday, May 16, Ladies’ Foursomes
66 ladies took part in the foursomes event, with Jenny Durante and Helen Newitt sneaking home to collect the spoils on a countback from Lynne Kirby and Angela Kiely, both pairs with 73.5 nett. In 3rd place with 75 were Angela Foott and Jenny Champion.
Saturday, May 19, Men’s and Ladies’ 4BBB Stableford
Back over the 200 mark, with 171 men and 33 ladies enjoying the pairs format, which is great numbers for this time of the year. Well done to Bernard Reed, partnering Warrnambool visitor Stephen Duhau and finishing with 10 up to capture the crown, only one hole ahead of four pairs, in countback order, Bob Gibbs and Bill Archer, Bill and Jack Martin, David Bond and Terry Powell, and Alan Kerry and Steve Miller. The NTPs were struck by Bob Gibbs, Stephen Duhau and John Powell, with Justin McGrath getting the ProPin.
