Portarlington Golf Club – November 16, 2017

December 5, 2017 BY

IT is very noticeable around the golf club that the warmer weather has at last started to arrive, especially in the late afternoon and early evening with the seasonal introduction of daylight saving. Some people take their dog for a walk along the foreshore, others take their golf clubs for a walk around the course at this beautiful time of the day. With green fees only half price after 4pm, the course becomes very well used as members and others decide to spend this special time of the day whacking a few golf balls around, or practicing those troublesome shots. It’s a great place to be!

Tuesday November 7, Men’s and Ladies’ Stableford
Cup day attracted a good field of 136 men and four ladies brave enough to step out into the usual men’s comp! 42 points won the day, and that was by Alan Grainger, who also took out D Grade from Len Elder’s 39. Lee McMurrich topped the A Graders with 39 from Matt Salter’s 38, Matt also taking home the ProPin. B Grade was won by Jim McGrath with 37 on a countback from John Cranston, and John Powe was best C Grader with 40 from Arthur McPhee’s 37. The NTPs were struck by Arthur Dimble, Rob Stiglbauer and Rex Johnson. Best lady was Helen Powe, making it a great family result with 39 points.

Wednesday November 8, Ladies’ Irish 4BBB Stableford
A field of 18 teams of four lined up for this fun format, with the winning team of Marg Mascoll, Jacky Rowe, Geraldine Collison and Jeanette Barclay scoring 102 points to just edge out Jill Barker, Pat Peacock, Joyce Vagg and Shauna Gray with 98 points. One point back in 3rd place were Marg Howell, Sandra Paddle, Marian Keskinen and Ann Watts.
