Portarlington Golf Club – October 12, 2017

November 14, 2017 BY

AS WE drive into the club in very recent days, we can’t miss the building activity going on around the Pro Shop. The need for an upgrade to the Pro Shop to increase display area and to provide facilities more in keeping for the club that we now are should be completed by November.

Tuesday October 3, Two-Man Ambrose:
A field of 74 pairs made this a very successful day on the Men’s golfing calendar, with perfect spring weather to complement it. Winners on the day were Graham Vohmann and Lindsay Powell, with a birdieridden nett score of 60.5, two shots in front of Dave McNamara and Josh Kent on 62.5. Third placegetters were Adrian Saltamaccia and Josh Williams with 65.25. The NTPs went to Brian Hazell, Max Boyle and Michael Myatt.

Wednesday October 4, Ladies’ Stableford
A break from Club Championships this week attracted 57 ladies to enjoy the sunshine, the most successful being Pat Peacock with a great score of 41 points to score Trophy of the Day and also top the B Graders from Megan Siotos on 37. Best in A Grade was Captain Jan Cogger with 39, just edging out Nancy Hendy on a countback, and Colleen Butler emerged at the top of C Grade with 39, just ahead of Judy Fox on a countback. Saturday October 7, third round of Men’s Club Championships, Ladies’ Stableford
A very interesting picture has emerged at the top of the leaderboard to see who will become the 2017 club champion. Last year’s winner, Josh Kent shared the top round of the day of 75 with up-and-comer Jack Martin to throw down the gauntlet to leaders, Justin McGrath on 236 and Matt Salter on 238. Consistent performer Gavin Whyley is next on 239, with Kent next on 240 and Martin 243. The final round will be played this Saturday, with all the above players well in the mix.

In the daily nett event, Sean Walton won the honours with an outstanding round of 68 to also top the B Graders from Bill Reid with 71. Jack Martin’s net 70 topped the A Graders by a shot from John Hill, Ken Paterson’s 71 got him the C Grade voucher on a countback from Mannie Golfis, and Barry Hildebrandt was best of the D Graders with 72 from Bill Reid Snr on 75.
