Rampaging Roos set the standard into Round 7
ANGLESEA’S consistency with the bat has propelled it to the top of the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association (BPCA) A1 ladder as the Roos head to Ocean Grove this afternoon to keep its undefeated season rolling.
A strong 78-run opening partnership between Tyron Norman and Simon Umbers last week against Queenscliff set the tone for Anglesea’s fourth win of the season, further consolidated by Michael Thornton’s 123 runs off 107 deliveries.
The victory took the Roos to four wins and no losses across both two-day and one-day action through six rounds, while Ocean Grove’s struggle to find form has weakened the Grubbers’ record to one win and four losses.
Anglesea also did a good job of unsettling the Coutas last week, keeping Queenscliff’s highest individual score to Lochie Philp’s 34.
Ben Harcombe and Tom Beasley’s menacing attack on the bowl reverberated down the Queenscliff order.
Beasley took four wickets off 19 overs, while Harcombe took 4/14 off just 11 overs.
Queenscliff were eventually all out for 126 in one ball past 54 overs.
Ocean Grove fell seven wickets short against Jan Juc in Round 6 and will be eager to get back in the winner’s column for the first time since November 2.
Ocean Grove and Anglesea start play at Ray Menzies Oval today at 1pm.
Barrabool hosts Barwon Heads, while Drysdale heads to Armstrong Creek and Queenscliff hosts Jan Juc.
