Robertson claims first Hells Bells win

June 27, 2019 BY

FORMER Rip Curl Pro runner-up Adam Robertson claimed an emphatic victory in the Torquay Boardriders Hells Bells comp at the weekend.

Robertson was on fire all day in the small Bells Beach waves.

The small waves in the morning proved difficult for competitors on the low tide, however the waves improved as the day went on making it a super exciting finish to an eventful day.

With a field of the best 48 surfers from across Victoria, heats were stacked to the brink with talents galore in every heat, making it a spectacle in itself to see the best in the state do battle.

After the first few heats of the morning, a traditional Wadawurrung ceremony followed as surfers and spectators paid their respect to the traditional owners of the lands that Bells Beach is on.

Surfers that impressed in the early rounds were last year’s event winner Josh Johnson Baxter, Xavier Huxtable, Lewy Wright and Adam Robertson.

As the day went on, the competition became fiercer as we approached the pointy end of the day.

It was former Rip Curl Pro runner-up Adam Robertson, Xavier Huxtable, Josh Johnson-Baxter and Tom Edgar who were able to make it to the final and inch themselves closer to the title.

In a highly anticipated final, all surfers were able to lock in some mid-range scores to keep proceedings close, however it was Adam Robertson who was able to break away from the pack and take home his first Hells Bells win.

Robertson was elated to take out the win and got to celebrate it with his family watching on.

That’s a Hells Bells wrap.

Stay cool.
