SCHOOL HOLIDAYS INDOOR TENNIS TOURNAMENT

July 24, 2019 BY

Girls doubles finalists, Jordyn, Tiahna, Eva-May and Abbey.

SOME of Geelong’s best up and coming tennis aspirants showcased their skills in the recent Bronze Level 2019 Centre Court Indoor junior tournament, a singles and doubles event for 16 and under juniors conducted over three days.

A solid entry of 40 participated on those great courts, where the weather is never a problem!

The girls final saw 13-year-old Elyana Moonen (from Sydney) come from a set down to score narrowly from
top seed Jennifer McDonald, while in the boys division, local Taj Cayzer and Dylan Vaughan (from Melbourne), fought it out with Taj home in straight sets, but the second set was a tie-breaker.

It was a real cliffhanger in the girls doubles final, where Jordyn Aitken and Tiahna Leader just got over the line despite some spirited opposition from Eva-May Jablonski and Abbey McPhee.

The boy’s doubles final was more straight-forward, with Taj Cayzer completing a singles/doubles triumph, combining with Gavin D’Souza for a quite comfortable win over the determined duo of Sam Hines and Ned Simpson.

More junior tennis is coming up at the indoor centre in the coming months, with the 2019 Head All Stars Junior Series taking place on Sunday, July 28 as well as August 25, September 27, October 27 and November 27. This is all singles in age groups including 10, 12, 14 and 16 and under and there’s an 8.30am start. All standards of juniors are invited to play. Call the centre for info 5272 1760.

The indoor centre is certainly a Mecca for the true lover of the game, with tennis competition and social play every day of the week, an unsurpassed coaching program, a top selection of racquets and prompt re-stringing, not to mention the best advice available for the high level players right down to the beginners and social players.
