Seven teams, five spots – who will make the GDFL finals?

THERE are seven sides who can still make the GDFL seniors finals, but only five will remain following the last round of the home and away season this weekend.
Four teams are already locked in, but the positioning is still very much yet to be decided.
East Geelong sits atop the ladder, roughly 30 percent in front of Belmont. If the Eagles beat Inverleigh this weekend, they will be crowned minor premiers for the third time in four seasons. However, they could drop as low as third with a loss.
The Lions play Geelong West and can take over the top spot if they win and the Eagles lose. Regardless, they are confirmed to have the double chance, with third place being the worst-case scenario.
North Geelong sit third and could also mathematically finish in first, should they win and boost percentage, and the Lions and Eagles lose. Their healthy percentage should keep them in third place even if they go down to Winchelsea.
Bell Post Hill have found themselves in fourth after an impressive second half of the season.
Regardless of the result against Corio this weekend, the Panthers look bound to play in an elimination final. While very unlikely, an almighty win over the Devils that makes up 33 percent and a Magpies loss could see them move up to third.
Anakie can play finals for the first time since 1998 on one condition – they beat the Werribee Centrals this weekend. However, the Roos could drop as low as seventh with a loss.
Just 0.72 percent splits sixth-placed Inverleigh and seventh-placed Thomson. Both sides will need to win, and rely on Werribee to overcome Anakie, to keep their finals chances alive. From there, percentage will be the decider for the ultimate spot in the finals.
