GEELONG Venom co-captain Alex Sharp has signed for the coming WNBL season and said she cannot wait to play under new coach Cheryl Chambers.

Sharp signed a new one-year contract last week, securing her as one of the club’s most influential leaders through the next phase of their development.

The elite talent has played a pivotal role both and off the court, setting the standard for professionalism, competitiveness and culture.

This past year, the star guard represented the Australian Opals and prior to that had gained international experience competing in Spain.

Sharp said was she excited to continue her journey with the Venom.

“Geelong means a lot to me, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve started to build here, ” Sharp said.

“Being part of the process to appoint Cheryl and now having the chance to play under her is something I’m really looking forward to.

“There’s a strong foundation in place, and I’m excited about what we can achieve together over the next season.”

Chambers welcomed the opportunity to work closely with Sharp.

“Alex is exactly the type of player and person you want leading your program,”Chambers said.

“She brings a fierce competitiveness, a high basketball IQ, and an unwavering commitment to her teammates.

“What stood out to me throughout the process was her investment in the future of this club – not just as a player, but as a leader.”
