MORE than 100 children turned out over the holidays for the Coerver Coaching school holiday program.

Across three days, camps ran in Geelong and Torquay taking participants of all abilities through soccer skills and mini matches.

Coerver Coaching Geelong director Adrian Leijer said it was awesome to see so many children playing soccer.

“The kids have a lot of fun, we try and educate them as to how we like the sport to be played and we try to teach them the right things like nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle and everything that comes with playing sport.

“They’re really good programs, the coaches are highly skilled, and the kids locally are really benefiting from what we’re doing around town.”

Children participating in the Torquay camp were treated to Melbourne Victory Captain Roderick Miranda who took part in an autograph and photo session.

Over at the Geelong camp A-league player Bruno Fornaroli visited and spoke about his time as a junior growing up in Uraguay and his career since then.

Mr Leijer said the biggest thing from the holiday camps is trying to get the kids to fall in love with the game and being out with their friends.

“We do make sure that we take really good care of the kids, we make sure they pair up with their friends where we can and they have a good experience overall.

“You’ve got your kids there that are wanting to go on and be professional players and you’ve got your kids there that are trying to learn soccer for the first time and then everything in between.

“We’ve got some really great young coaches who are awesome role models for the kids and just trying to team them a positive way of life and doing it through sport.”
