THE Anglesea Sprint Series was held on Sunday, testing its competitors’ running, kayaking, mountain biking and navigational skills.

Adventure Junkie event co-ordinator Maria Plyashechko said the race had been very well received despite only being in its second
year.

“It went really well, the weather was really good. There were some people returning from last year’s race and others trying it for the first time.”

Gavin Brown and Mitch Bodycoat won the Advanced Classic Race. They were the only team to manage a time under three hours, finishing in two hours, 59 minutes and 10 seconds. Ron Thomas and Nigel Muscroft finished a close second, with a time of just over three hours.

The Advanced leg of the race included extra mountain biking leg that was only open to the first 15 team entries in the Classic Race.

Kara Landells and Josh Roy were the fastest mixed team in the Advanced Classic Race. They finished in three hours, 26 minutes and 24 seconds.

Rachel Zacharakis and Jen Bradshaw were the quickest team in the Classic Race not to be in the Advanced category. They finished the race in two hours 51 minutes and 17 seconds.

Megan Wilson and Megan Dunkley won the Novice Race. They were the only team to finish it in under two hours.

They won by a distance, finishing in a time of one hour, 54 minutes and 41 seconds.

Tyler and Shaun Baxter came second, finishing in two hours, 13 minutes and 21 seconds. They were also the quickest family team in the race.

Ms Plyashechko said the strong turnout meant the race’s future looked good.

“We’re planning to run a similar race next year, probably with an additional longer course.”
