ST Joseph’s College Geelong has become just the second Associated Catholic College to win the Football Victoria Premier Schools Cup Soccer Championship.

Joey’s senior side defeated Carey Grammar 2-0 in a highly entertaining Grand Final last week at the Home of the Matildas in Bundoora.

Tobias Servin scored the first goal of the match in the 32nd minute, sending the red, black and yellow into half-time with a 1-0 lead.

Striker Pat Wall sealed the victory when he scored the second goal of the match at the 39th minute mark.

The senior school student was awarded man of the match and was an outstanding player upfront, praised by both the opposition’s coach and competition organisers.

St Joseph’s College managed to fight hard to hold Carey goalless for the remainder of the match.

Coach Tom Trupkovic, who has led the team since 2004, said he was incredibly proud of the team’s efforts.

“The memories of what this team has achieved over the years will be fondly remembered. No team deserves it more.

“It has been a privilege and pleasure to coach this talented group of young men. Not only are they phenomenal athletes, but they are great kids.”

St Joseph’s College continue to partner with English soccer giant Liverpool FC on its Football Academy, together creating an innovative and outcomes-focused pathway for young athletes at the college.

The school also proudly claimed its fifth Associated Catholic Colleges Senior School soccer trophy this year.
