Stevie J’s giant story

November 29, 2017 BY

FROM cheeky country boy with a very distinct waddle, to AFL superstar Steve Johnson – or Stevie J as he is affectionately known – has a story like no other.

A triple-premiership player, three-time All-Australian player and Norm Smith medallist, the mercurial Stevie J has been at the heart of two of the most remarkable teams of modern times; the great triple premiership-winning Geelong Cats and the coming juggernaut of Greater Western Sydney.

The Cat with a Giant Story provides insight into the life and career of one of the AFL’s most successful, exciting and watchable players of the modern era.

Steve Johnson will be at Ocean Grove’s bookgrove on Friday November 10 at 5pm for the release of his book and will be doing a free signing all of his books purchased at bookgrove.

The book follows a life inside the most successful dynasty of the Geelong Football Club, breaking a 44-year premiership drought to win premiership flags in 2007, 2009 and 2011 as well as:

  • Stevie’s dramatic path to redemption in 2007
  • The rivalries
  • Stevie’s relationships with two of the game’s most successful coaches
  • The horrific 2003 Bali bombings
  • The decision to join expansion club GWS, following the heartbreak of leaving the Cats in 2015
  • Injuries that nearly signalled the premature end of Stevie’s career, including the infamous breaking of both his ankles after jumping off the roof of the Torquay pub during club Christmas celebrations in 2003
  • The devastating knee injury in the 2011 preliminary final

Featuring plenty of yarns, tall stories and goodnatured banter, The Cat with the Giant Story is the autobiography of one of the AFL’s greatest players and most-loved larrikins – the incomparable Stevie J.

Bookgrove is located at 1/73 The Terrace, Ocean Grove. This is a free event.
