Surf Coast FC Academy attracts A-League talent

SURF Coast FC will launch the first club-based football academy in the region later this year, which has attracted the backing of prominent businessman Frank Costa.

The new Surf Coast FC Academy program was recently unveiled at Costa’s Geelong office.

Surf Coast FC president Steve Christou announced that the ex-Geelong Cats president and unofficial Mayor of Geelong had been named the Academy’s Ambassador.

“Our new Senior coach and former Academy Technical Director of A-League club Newcastle Jets’ Mike Cooper will be director of football, while Frank joins as Academy Ambassador,” Mr Christou said.

“He is a great supporter of the Surf Coast and Geelong community and we are thankful for his support.

“This as a massive opportunity for our club and players in the area, with many travelling to Melbourne to attend similar types of academies. They now have a local opportunity to be coached by one of the best junior development coaches in the country.

“In the coming weeks, we will be running a small program to showcase what the Academy and Michael can offer.”

Mr Costa said he was “very proud to have been asked to be an ambassador for the new Surf Coast Football Club Academy. It’s a great opportunity to bring sport to the community in a fast-growing area”.

Surf Coast Academy dates begin on October 30, with girls welcome at all sessions.

Michael will also be running a mini roos program on Saturdays from October 20: 4-6 years group 9am-10am; 7-9 years group 10am-11am.
