Surf Coast FC enter into semi-finals
SURF Coast Football Club’s Women’s team will play in the Division 2 semi-final at Banyul Warri Reserve at 3pm on Saturday .
Having finished second in the league, Surf Coast FC will play third placed Geelong Soccer Club in the semi final.
Women’s team coach Mariela Pocklington said the team was excited to be fulfilling their pre-season aims.
“The girls set the goal at the start of the season that they wanted to make finals, and they’ve worked really hard to do that.”
Both sides finished the home and away season on 42 points. But Surf Coast FC finished above Geelong SC due to their superior goal difference, and subsequently get to play the semi-final at home.
Surf Coast FC defeated Geelong SC 6-1 when the teams first met in round two. But their later meeting saw a much improved Geelong SC take a 2-1 win.
Pocklington said her side would be facing a “tough opponent” on Saturday.
Surf Coast FC’s only other loss throughout the season was to North Geelong Warriors Soccer Club. North Geelong finished on top of the table and will play Golden Plains Soccer Club in the other semi-final.
Surf Coast FC have the leagues most prolific attack and tidiest defence, having scored 89 goals an conceded just 13 over the season.
If they win their semi-final, the will play in the grand final at Drysdale Sporting Precinct the following Saturday.
