Surf Coast FC will host a Ladies’ Day Celebration of Female Football later this month, with Emily Shears from the Female Athlete Network listed as the guest speaker.
With tickets limited to 100, players, parents, family and supporters are encouraged to book early to avoid missing out at the event at Grant Pavilion in Torquay North.
Shears is an Australian pharmacist with a range of qualifications in sport and education.
“Emily consults with several professional sporting organisations as a Performance Health Consultant, combining her expertise in sport pharmacy and exercise science to support athlete wellbeing and performance,” Surf Coast FC’s website states.
“Emily is a mum to two young boys who both play for the Surf Coast FC in the mini‑roos program. She also has her own elite athlete background, having picked up a scholarship to Sydney Uni as a lightweight rower before being selected as part of the AIS Talent ID Program for the skeleton at the 2006 Torina Olympics.
“As the founder of the Female Athlete Network, Emily is a strong advocate for women in sport, and continues to work at the intersection of pharmacy, sport, and health education.
“Emily is looking forward to sharing her expertise and insights with us on all things women in sport at the 2025 Surf Coast FC Ladies Day.”
The club previously hosted a successful guest speaker at a previous Ladies Day event in 2018, with more than 60 attendees.
Surf Coast FC is also calling for donations from local businesses or individuals to raise funds for the female community at the club.
This year’s event will run on August 17 from 1 pm to 5 pm, with tickets including a special gift bag.
A raffle will also run with many prizes from local businesses to be won.
