Surf Coast Longboarders ready to log in for winter classic
The Surf Coast Longboarders’ annual Winter Classic is ready to take off on a good run of winter swell, with the first day of competition scheduled for Torquay Point on Saturday before moving to Point Impossible for Sunday.
The Winter Classic is the Surf Coast Longboarders main charity event.
Last year, through the event, the club raised more $8,000 raised for a family with a child fighting cancer.
This year’s funds will go to another local cause.
Club president Brian Kuit said a record 71 people had signed up for the classic and he hoped they would better last year’s figure.
“It’s fantastic we’ve been so successful with this fund-raising competition, and that the community has been so supportive.”
There will also be a charity auction held on Saturday at Bells Beach Brewing, Shed 2/22 Baines Crescent from 6.30pm onward, with free nibbles being provided.
Heats start at 8am on Saturday.
