Surfing double-header slated for the weekend
MORE than 50 of the state’s best surfers will feature across a jam-packed weekend of competition.
Round 1 of the Victorian Open Series will be held today (Saturday, September 14) and be followed by the Victorian Teams Titles tomorrow (Sunday, September 15).
Competitors slated to compete tomorrow include Jan Juc quartet Willis Droomer, Tully Wylie, Dune Pruvot and Juliet Muscroft.
Droomer and Wylie will both be searching for another state title, while Pruvot and Muscroft are aiming to take top honours for the first time.
Following today’s action, rivalries will be renewed tomorrow with the state’s top boardriders clubs doing battle for ultimate bragging rights.
Torquay Boardriders will be chasing back-to-back team’s titles for the first time in six years, and will likely face stiff competition from local compatriots Jan Juc Boardriders and state stalwarts Phillip Island and Peninsula Surfriders.
Club president Tully Wylie said his club was raring to go.
“We can’t wait. It’s such an exciting format, and to work together as a team is super-special.
“While its always hard to have a strategy before you see the conditions, we just have to balance time while still putting good scores on the board.
“We know that whoever ends up in the team will be ready to put together a solid performance.”
The primary location for the event is Bells Beach, with Jan Juc currently classified as the backup location, pending conditions.
