THE SANDS TORQUAY – August 1, 2019
Wednesday July 24 – Stableford Medley (Blue & Red Tees) (7th Round Winter Classic). Tough winter conditions again out there for competitors in the classic. The wind was up all day making scoring tough. The conditions played right into David Mallett’s(2) hands as he worked the low ball around the links and his putter firing as usual with his traditional lean on the 6ft putts, completing his round in toughest of conditions in the afternoon with a well-earned 36 points on a count back from Jeff Treloar(12) who gritted his round in the morning. Well played to both the only two players to play to their handicap for the day. Leader Al Hartley (11) away chasing the sun still out on top on 4750 points from Phil Eltringham(10) who didn’t add to his total 250 points behind. David jumps in to third a further 20 points back.
Thursday July 25 – Women’s Stableford (Gold Tees). Brisk morning but a solid winter day for golf as the ladies tune up for medal next week Christine Brackin [22] grinded out 36 points to pip Lynne Hyett [23] on a count back. Well done to both players on a gritty performance. Nearest to pins went to Dot Tattersall (7th) & Christine Brackin (17th). DSR: 71.0.
