The Sands Torquay – October 26, 2017
Wednesday Men’s Stableford
A beautiful warm spring day at The Sands with the sun out all day and light winds throughout the day. The course has finally dried out allowing for some much needed run, but the cored and sanded greens played tricks on a few golfers. Today’s winner was Richard Fearon (36) who recorded an amazing score of 41 points. A long time between drinks for Richard; well done! The runner up today was Simon Burriss (5) who made a triumphant return with 38 points. Nearest the pins went to Simon Burriss on the 7th hole and Jim Demetrious on the 17th hole. The ball pool went down to 32 points on a countback. The second last round of the Winter Classic Playoffs concluded today with Simon Burriss taking the major points today. Colin Chinn still has a stranglehold on the competition with the final round to be played next Wednesday.
Thursday Ladies
No competition.
Saturday Stableford
Saturday’s warm yet windy conditions provided no match to the golfers as many thrived in the challenging conditions. John Girling was the winner of the men’s competition with a great score of 39 points. Closely behind was Frank Kevric on a very respectable score of 38 points. Susan Barrett was not only our ladies champion but overall winner for the day with an excellent score of 40 points. Trailing behind in second place was Marg Hales with a tidy 33 points. The Nearest the Pins went to Judy Hodgkins (Hole 5), Darrel Nash (Hole 5), Peter Morris (Hole 7), Jim Marendaz (Hole 13) and Frank Kevric (Hole 17).
Sunday Stableford Medley
Pretty nice day for golf out there for our Sunday players. We had a pretty good field out in overcast conditions with medium strength winds. The greens are getting back to their best after being cored a month ago. Today’s winner was Colin Chinn with a whopping 41 points. He was closely followed by hot shot Chris Chapman who had 40 points.
