The Sands Torquay – September 6, 2018
WEDNESDAY August 29
It was the 2-Person Ambrose off the Blue tees for the Men’s competition today. Chilly weather this morning, but the sun helped. 27 teams for today’s competition. Coming in first place was Team Little and Siketa, who smoked the field, finishing up on 61 points. Sources close to the club believe that several golfers overheard the master, Don, describing the pain in his shoulders after the round from carrying his apprentice, Riley, throughout the day. Runner-up was Team Mallett and Hammett, who closed out their round on 64.5 points. The ball pool ran down the line to 65.5, with Austin Swain (5th hole) and Geoffrey Proposch (17th hole) getting the nearest to pins.
Thursday August 30
Stableford off the Red tees for the Ladies. Ensured for a tight competition. Champion for the day was Mandee Trevena [45] who closed out her round on 33 points. Following closely behind was Judith Campbell-Stewart who finished on 32 points, which was enough for runner-up. The ball pool ran down the line to 29 points, with Mandee Trevena (7th hole) and Wendy Muller (17th hole) were nearest to the pins.
Saturday September 1
Stroke off the Blue tees for Men. Monthly Medal day today saw 100 participants hit the course in miserable conditions. Cold, windy and patches of rain didn’t stop some excellent scores from being posted. In A Grade, Brett Balloch [1] finished on Nett 72, two shots ahead of Liam Buchanan [8] on Nett 74. B Grade was taken out by Paul Hedley [17] who had a fantastic score of Nett 71, followed closely by Ray Robison [16] on Nett 74. In C Grade, it was Glen Lochhead [22] who came out on top with Nett 72, with Damian Chester [23] runner up on Nett 75. The ball pool ran down the line to Nett 77. Nearest to pins on the day went to Charlie Celi (5th hole, 0.79m), Ray Robison (7th hole, 0.87m), Luke Vassallo (13th hole, 2.45m) and Peter Cottam (17th hole, 5.10m). Congratulations to September Medal winner Paul Hedley! And to Peter Brooks for an eagle on the 12th.
Sunday September 2
Stableford Medley today, White tees for Men and Gold tees for Ladies. Cold morning, with the sun coming out from the clouds every now and then, and the wind behaving itself.
