Things heat up in Fishos Paddle Series

THINGS are heating up for the overall series win with only two races to go in the Fishos Paddle Series.

On February 2 race four saw a fantastic turn out, with great depth across the field.

Victoria’s best paddlers along with a number of interstate visitors from Tasmania and New South Wales raced hard in the windy conditions.

Organisers said it was great to see some first time racers participating, especially Chloe Scott who battled to take out the win in the open women’s 10-kilometre SUP.

As always the course was set to reflect the conditions, with an excellent downwind leg from Point Danger back to Whites Beach. The mixed bag of crosswind and headwind let the competitors show their skills.

Kimberly Gilling won the Under 18 female five-kilometre prone, Tasmania’s Roz Barber took out the women’s 10-kilometre Over 40s ski, with Jan Juc local Jaci Jewson winning the women’s Over 50s five-kilometre ski and Diane Bloom crossing the line with the win in the Over 50 women’s SUP.

Brea Roadley had her second win of the series in the women’s 10-kilometre ski.

The men’s open 10-kilometre ski had a very talented field, including Ivor Morgan who just pipped Mick Levertt on the line, as well as Tim Naughtin, Tasmania’s Ben Maynard and New South Wales’ Dean Gardiner. These guys were kept on their toes by paddling the great John Jacoby.

Great to see the Nalu surf prone division growing each race, 10-kilometre prone division winners are as follows: Under 18 Jolyon Simpson, Open Ollie Butler, Over 40 Tim Watson and Over 50 Jock Evans. Jason Simpson took out the OC 10-kilometre.

Race five in the series will be held on March 2.
