Grants available for This Girl Can Week

January 23, 2020 BY

Last March as part of This Girl Can Month, women across the Surf Coast congregated at the Torquay Surf Lifesaving Club to hear from netball legends Sharelle McMahon and Susan Meaney.

THE Surf Coast Shire Council has announced it will be giving out grants to help support This Girl Can Week in March.

VicHealth will fund the grants, which will be up to $400. They will go to community groups and sporting clubs looking to build female participation in physical activities.

Groups in the area are encouraged to hold “come and try” days or beginners session during the week of March 23-29.

This Girl Can was launched in 2018.

VicHealth stated prior to the campaign their research showed that 52 per cent of Victorian women are worried about being judged while exercising and for 41 per cent this stopped them from exercising.

They believe the campaign has inspired almost 400,000 Victorian women to get active.

Grant applications are open until 5pm on Friday, February 7.

People looking to get active can see what activities are running near them by visiting thisgirlcan.com.au.
