TORQUAY shooter Elisa Hall played out of her skin in yesterday’s (Sunday, August 18) Elimination Final outing against Newcomb, helping lead the way for Sonia Harris’ side and keeping her team’s season alive.

The Tigers overcame the Power with a 51-38 win at Portarlington Recreation Reserve to set up a Semi-Final matchup with Queenscliff.

Torquay opened the game on the front foot, holding a 13-8 lead at the end of the first term.

The Power kept within an arm’s reach by the end of the first half, trailing by only five goals (25-20), but Torquay turned it up a notch on the other side of the main break.

Hall and Torquay skipper Rhian Moresi helped lead the charge in the third quarter, putting the Tigers ahead 37-28 with 15 minutes still to play.

Rhian Moresi is defended by Jessica Duke.

The Spring Creek Reserve team stymied Newcomb’s ball movement in the middle third during the fourth quarter, preventing the chance of a late comeback.

Hall was top-tier around the net with a game-high 37 goals for Torquay, while Moresi scored 14 of her own.

Carly Sanders finished with 26 goals, as Sian Mortlock and Sarah Mulqueen combined for 12.

Hall and Moresi were nominated for best on court for the Tigers, joined by defender Sarah Butler.

Sarah Butler was staunch in defence.

Newcomb bow out of 2024 after a superb season, fighting its way back into the finals with a record of 10 wins, seven losses and a draw under head coach Lisa Robinson.

Torquay’s next outing will be on Sunday against Queenscliff, in – for the second year in a row – the Semi-Final.
