Tomlinson eyes up multi-division accolade
ISAAC Tomlinson has been on a tear as of late, the 23-year-old picking up a super featherweight title, facing an old foe, and earning the chance to become a multi-division WBC champion in his last three Muay Thai fights alone.
A Geelong-raised and Bones MMA-trained product, Tomlinson will have perhaps his biggest fight in front of him when he squares off with the defending 63.5kg WBC State Champion Sulaiman Hashemi on July 8 in Melbourne.
“I’m feeling pretty good about the fight, I have a great team and community behind me as well as an amazing support network,” Tomlinson said.
“I’m confident in my training, training plan, team and my skillset that we can get the job done and I can bring back a shiny belt to hang in the gym.
“This is one of my biggest fights to date.”
Tomlinson, who has 17 professional bouts under his belt, considers himself as an entertainer when he steps into the ring, bringing an aggressive yet technical skillset to the ring with the ability to go into his bag of tricks if needed.
“As long as the crowd is roaring and people have watched a great fight, then I don’t care too much about the decision,” Tomlinson said.
“I’m fighting a good friend of mine that I have made throughout my Thai boxing journey in Sulaiman who has been around the fight scene for quite a while now and has definitely got the experience over me.
“But with some good hand work and ring control, mixed in with some of my go-to style, we are certain we can beat him.
“It could go either way, it just depends what happens on the night.”
Tomlinson joined Torquay-based Bones MMA just a few months ago and has long admired how the gym has conducted its programming.
The move also came a few months after Isaac and his partner welcomed their daughter into the world.
“I joined the amazing team at Bones MMA just a few months ago after moving from another local gym,” Tomlinson added.
“The style of training and general vibe and atmosphere of Bones is something I admired for a while and knew I had to be a part of it, it suits me very well and I thrive off of the Bones environment and people.”
Tomlinson will have owner/trainer Matt Williams and his team in his corner alongside a troop of Bones MMA fighters also on the fight card.
Other Bones MMA representatives scheduled to fight on July 8 include Hannah Collins, Zane “The Milkman” Braniff and Ryan Doyle.
