Torquay announce invitees for Hells Djarrak
TORQUAY Boardriders has announced its invitee list for its multi-club invitational Hells Djarrak surfing event on August 31.
The club has invited 46 of their local athletes, who will do battle against a selected field of invited surfers from Victoria’s biggest clubs.
Surfers locked in to compete include former ISA world junior champion Willis Droomer, two-time Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach wildcard Xavier Huxtable, World Qualifying Series surfer Ellie Harrison and former club open women’s champion Bella Wilson.
The Hells Djarrak open champion will take home $1,000 and the prestigious Bunjil trophy.
The women’s winner will also take $1,000 in cash, while the junior champion and overall boardriders club champions will claim $500.
Torquay Boardriders club president Tully Wylie said excitement was high heading into the event.
“Hells Djarrak is our biggest event of the year, and we absolutely can’t wait.
“It’s fantastic that our members get the chance to represent our club with pride and take on the best surfers from around the state.
“With such a prestigious trophy up for grabs like the Bunjil, and plenty of cash, all competitors will be putting everything on the line to win the event.”
A social shootout is set to feature at the event, while sponsors Quiksilver and Roxy will run special activations of their own.
The after-party, supported by the team at Blackman’s Brewery, will be held at Bird Rock Café.
Invitees from other boardriders clubs are expected to be announced in the next fortnight.
