TORQUAY Bowls Club have enjoyed a jam-packed fortnight across their 2026 Pennant campaigns, securing three premierships across three divisions.

The club’s Weekend Division Two and Eight teams both claimed victories over Geelong and Drysdale respectively, whilst the Midweek Division Six overcame St Leonards on the last ball of the day.

Five of the club’s 13 teams reached grand finals and seven made finals, indicating the widespread bowling depth on display.

Bowls president Joe Issell is proud of the achievement.

“In the last six seasons, we’ve won 14 premierships. It’s a pretty good record!” he said.

“It’s always exciting for the club. It doesn’t matter which division it is, it could be a top side or a lower side, the grand finals mean the same to us.

“A lot of players who weren’t playing finals were out supporting our other teams, so the atmosphere was fantastic. We’ve got a great community club and everybody gets behind everybody, we just support each other.”

The club is entirely run by volunteers, with Issell thanking all those involved for their contributions over the season.

“One thing we put our success down to is our volunteers,” he said.

“They put in so many hours and help out in all different aspects of our bowls program. Without them, we wouldn’t be the club that we are.

“That’s where our continued success comes from, year in year out.”

Issell said the club was now looking ahead to next season, which starts later this year, and hoped to bring in a bowls coordinator to oversee the program.

“At the moment we don’t pay anybody, but we do want to get a paid coordinator in and then in the next 48 months hopefully a coach,” he said.

“That’ll drive us to where we want to be – we’re in the premier division, we’re one of the big four clubs in Geelong and we just want to keep building.”
