Torquay boxing triad wins fights
Torquay Coastal Boxing Gym had huge success at the Victorian amateur Boxing League (VaBL) event in Sunshine earlier this month, with all three 15-year-old boxers winning their fights.
Coach ashley Lynch was pleasantly surprised all of his boxers won but said he was more proud of their sportsmanship on the night
“Normally you might get one or two winning, but to have the whole team win is a terrific result,” Ashley said.
“Their attitude and how they composed themselves in the ring is what made me proud as a coach on the night.
“The guys have been through a brutal two-month training regime with me in preparation for the contest and have been rewarded with quite large medals for their efforts and talent.
“We visited four gyms around Geelong for sparring practice to get them out of their comfort zone.
“I put them up against much more experienced amateur and professional boxers to get them to step it up a level, and they did.”
All VABL fights on the night were three by two-minute rounds, fought before an audience of 500 at Sunshine’s West End Market Hotel.
Frank Hagigeorgiou won the 45kg division by TKo in round 2, Euan Kennedy won the 60kg division on points decision and Lochie Elms won the 63kg division on points decision.
The boys are set to have a crack at the Victorian Titles next month.
