Torquay Golf Club – June 28, 2018
TUESDAY June 19: A field of 68 ladies participated in the Annual Community Services Day. Again, money was raised for a great cause.
We saw some amazing home made products sold at the stall, well done girls. Trudy Bath, Michele Hayes, Lesley Thornton and Monica Hingston had a fun time racking up the winning score in the Irish Fourball Stableford event to top off an eventful day.
Wednesday June 20: Another busy Wednesday for Stableford, Super 6 and the final round of the Pettigrove Trophy. Tony Strahan had the score of the day with 41 in B Grade, Michael Naughton won A with 39 and left hander Warren Gaunt topped C with 40.
Don Forsyth who has been bragging about the Magpies, not only won D Grade but also defeated Gary Taylor on count back for the John Pettigrove Trophy. Keith Nicholson won the Resort Comp and Resort Super 6 whilst Ross Martin took the Mens Super 6 honours. Brett Duyvesten must be mentioned for his NTP on 12 and a Jackpot win.
Friday 22nd: Andy Clark scored an impressive 71 off the beater on Friday to win A with 40 points whilst John Bishop took out B with 36.
Alan Hartley scored an eagle on 16 and David Mark collected the Jackpot. The final of the Clive Martella Singles Match Play Knockout was also played on Friday between good friends Barry Hewitt and Dean Pearce. Dean was the eventual winner with a hot streak late in his round, securing the title 4 and 3.
Saturday June 23: Saturday was chilly, but this didn’t stop Geoff Walters winning A Grade with a sizzling 42 points. Last minute entrant Barry Grigg topped B with 38 and Daryl Clutterbuck continued his good form in C, also scoring 38.
Anne Staig was the winner for the girls with 32 and Ross Forbes had a day out with 42 and a Super 6 win on the resort course. Other Super 6 winners were Ken Nunn and Lesley Thornton. Eagles were a plenty on Saturday, thanks to Andrew Carr, Tony Jones and young Tom Powell.
Sunday 24th: Leon Napper scored a very handy 40 points on Sunday to win the Mens Competition ahead of Pat Skene. Ben Chandley collected the jackpot.
