TORQUAY GOLF CLUB – March 21, 2019

TUESDAY saw A grade winner Wendy Lawson shot 37pts. B grade went to Ros Holland also with 37pts and C grade was won by Lesley Beltrame with the score of the day – 38pts. Barbara Barnes in a welcomed return to golf was our Resort winner 31pts. NTPs to Viv Nicol, Jenni Cottrill, Lesley Beltrame, Chris Rudd and Lynne Downes won the jackpot.

Wednesday kicked off this year’s Midweek championships and for the first round some good scores were posted, for the up to date leaderboard check the clubhouse notice boards. Winning A grade for this round was Gary Taylor 66. B grade winner Errol Morris also shot 66. C grade went to Kevin Young with the score of the day 65 and D grade Ray Gilby 69. Ray Frost took out the Resort win with 44pts. Guest winner Colin Brimson (Flagstaff Gc) had 70. NTPs Graeme Sharp, Darren Looker, Ray Rashleigh, Peter Rees, Errol Morris and Tony Jones the jackpot.

Thursday was our annual Ken Sizer event this event is played by the over 80s and they all play off the Resort tees. We had a full field which headed out in perfect conditions allowing for some good scoring. Lady’s winner Gwen Hand (Torquay GC)
had 35pts and the men’s Ken Sizer gross trophy was won by Harry Bennett (East Geelong GC) with 80 and Ian Lawson (Torquay GC) won the net on 65. All players enjoyed the hospitality and the course, and we hope we will see them all back next year.

On Friday, Ken Stanley shot +8 to take out the men’s A grade win. B grade winner Henry Kelly had +5. Lesley Beltrame won the ladies with +1 and Guest winner Nicholas Treble (former golf shop icon now Drummonds head sales guru) had 0. NTPs Joe Cengic, Garry Smith, Barbara Young- Harding and David Rae the jackpot.

Saturday was our Black Tee Challenge, 65 players played off the black markers with A grade taken out by Ado Cations +2 and B grade George Arnold +4. Blue tees 96 players A grade winner Michael Vanderwater +5 and B grade Tony Cosgrave also +5. Ladies winner Dee Matheson shot +3 & Roy Ball won the Resort with +5. Brett Hickey (13th Beach GC) was our guest winner scoring 33pts. NTPs Kathy Simson, Sue Barnes, Ron Fish, Ben Thomas, Damien Armour, Keith Warburton and Steve Grayson the jackpot.

On Sunday we had a morning competition and then guest day shotgun start. Our morning winner was John Nestor 42pts. NTPs Ken Scott, Andrew Fischer and Rob Harding the jackpot. Guest day winners Wendy Callahan and Don Callahan shot 48 pts. Men winners Trevor Westacott and Chris Coutts had 51 pts. NTPs Wayne Tozer, Bob Darby, Craig Willian, Ron Fish, Janine de Jong, Sandy Cunningham, Faye Henry-Davies, Judy Bell and Craig Willian hit the jackpot.
