TORQUAY GOLF CLUB – May 16, 2019
Tuesday May 7 – was the 1st round of the ladies Club Championships and unfortunately weather conditions were not kind as strong winds hammered the girls making scoring tough. A grade winner Mandy Buckley was still steady and had the score of the day 71.
Sue Booth took out B grade shooting 78 and C grade went to Sandra Duff with 81. Rosie Jones was our Resort winner scoring 35 points. NTPs Yvonne Mazylis, Shelly Clark, Clair Dowley, Rosie Jones, Sue Barnes and Gail Rooney was very happy to hit the jackpot as new golf gear awaits! Wednesday May 8 – Michael Naughton shot 39 points to win for A grade. B grade went to Ray Gogoll with 39 points. C grade winner Peter Oliver had the score of the day 41 points and D grade was won by Richard Hughes 37 points.
Resort winner Daryl Sceney shot 36 points and our guest win went to Harvey Flakemore (Huon Valley GC) 37 points. NTPs Ray Gogoll, Len Worsteling, Max Simpson, Greg Baeck, Colin Stone and Max Ellis hit the jackpot. Friday May 10 – Strong winds and heavy rain pelted the course and although it was much needed by the course, there was no competition as golfers stayed indoors for the day. Ladies pennant was also called off and will be rescheduled.
Saturday May 11 – the 2nd round of the men’s club Championships was held with some impressive scores posted. As with the ladies all up to date leaderboards will be on the notice boards inside the golf shop. This week’s winners were for A grade Ross Duff 67. B grade Tony Jones 64. C grade David Clark 68 and D grade Alan Foss 72. Robyn Soulsby won the ladies scoring 75. Ross Forbes took out the Resort win scoring 42 points and guest winner was Peter Singe with 73. NTPs Rod Brown, Anne Staig, Inge Oliver, Ross Forbes, Tony Cosgrave, Greg Dennis and Brendan Inglis hit the jackpot. Congratulations to Ian Sheldon scoring a hole in one on the 12th. Sunday May 12 – was Mother’s Day and traditionally it is very quiet on the golf course.
Once again that was the case this year and only a small field made it out for the competition. Tom Cairnduff had 41 points to win for the men. John Bishop was runner up also with 41 points and for the ladies Emma Pearce had 32 points. Guest winner Scott Eccleston (GenY) had 37 points. NTPs Clare Fitzpatrick, Emma Pearce, John Bishop, John McKay and Bruce Dyer the jackpot.
