Torquay Golf Club – May 24, 2018
TUESDAY was the final round of the club championships for the ladies. Winners’ names from all grades will be on the lady’s board located near the committee room and congratulations to all players as weather conditions were very tough for the final round. The final round of the men’s championships will be held this Saturday and members are encouraged to come down and support and celebrate with all the finalists and winners. Trophies will be presented at the end of the year on presentation day.
Tuesday: daily competition winners for stroke were Kathy Simson A grade 76. B grade Chris Barr 79. Stableford comp. winner was Lyn Delmenico scoring 32 points and our Resort winner Bev Appleton had 26 points. NTPs: Shelly Clark, Norma Veale, Marina Naughton and Inge Oliver hit the jackpot.
Wednesday: the men played par and A grade winner Michael Naughton scored +6. B grade went to Barry Grigg with +3. Ian Sweet took out C grade on +2 and Danny Guiney was our D grade champ for the day with +3. Brian Brown won the Resort on +2 and guest Brian Walsh (The Sands GC) also shot +2. NTPs: Garry Smith, Stuart Robinson, John Richards, Matt Carboon, Trevor Bell and Rod Papworth won the jackpot.
Friday: in perfect conditions Laurie Taylor shot 40 points to win A grade and B grade winner Warren Harris had 38 points. Ronnie Beacom won the ladies with 31 points and our guest winner Benjamin Bonwick (Yarrawonga GC) had 35 points. NTPs: Ian Foot, John Potter and Paul Brunt hit the jackpot.
Saturday: positions in the final round of the club championships were up for grabs but for those that did not qualify after round two we had a stableford competition. Andrew Carr won A grade 41 points. Peter Orwin B grade 36 points and C grade Henry Kelly 37 points. Terry Lee won the daily stroke round with 66. Resort winner Doug McGregor shot 42 points. The ladies win went to Margot Bradley with 32 points and our guest winner Joe Matokovic shot 41 points. NTPs: Tony Jones, Ross Forbes, Marina Naughton, Marg Joyner, Adam Noble, Keith Warburton and Peter Gorfine hit the jackpot.
Sunday: Due to the final round of the men’s division one pennant we had a small field of competition players and taking out the mixed competition was Michael Barrow with an impressive 49 points. NTPs: Dale Cook, Bernie Hallinan, Sandra lambert and Richard Drury the jackpot.
Pennant: Congratulations to our 2018 men’s division 5 flag winners, who defeated Bannockburn on Sunday to win. A team photo will be up on the website shortly.
