Torquay Golf Club – October 25, 2018

OUR Golf Week kicked off with a Texas Scramble in beautiful sunny conditions. Monday was even better weather, then unfortunately it turned nasty.

Tuesday the ladies played in pouring rain and talk about drowned rats that is exactly what some of them looked like, sorry girls! However, all was not lost as they showered and dressed for the Tuesday Ladies Halloween night spectacular. They entered a room covered with skeletons, witches, cobwebs, skulls and bones not to forget the pumpkins. Kathy Simson organised the floor show which consisted of four dance routines to Thriller, Ghostbusters, the skeleton dance and apparently no one can remember the last one – surprise, surprise; as the champagne flowed, there seems to have been a memory loss. Well done, Kathy – even though your show girls were all nervous, the audience thought it was a fabulous show.

Wednesday for the men was cold and windy then the rest of the week turned out just fine. Five of the seven events during the week were at capacity and late entrants were disappointed not to get a spot. so, a heads up for next year, make sure you get in early. The Monday Ambrose fills fast, and forms generally will be available on our website early September, watch out for them. Guests came from all over the district to play in our fabulous week of golf and of course there were great prizes on offer
for everyone including a Forty Winks bed that was up for grabs for the winner of the Friday all in putting competition. TGC member Peter Rees won that wonderful prize. The rest of us were not left out though as Forty Winks offered a huge discount on their bedding range which is just timely for Christmas purchases. Let Surfcoast in Bell Street also supplied a brand-new tablet for our 15th hole winner on the first Sunday. Some other fantastic prizes were up for grabs from our major sponsors such as Stretton Torquay, Kings cars, the Grovedale, Torquay Hotel, Crowe Howarth, MCG signs, Muirfield Financial, Bendigo Bank, Drummond Golf, Mann legal, Balanced podiatry, McCartney real estate, Kings funerals, RACV Torquay, Epworth Geelong and of course the Surf Coast Times.

The men’s open championship winner this year went to Peter Brooks from The Sands, who after 36 holes went to a sudden death playoff; Peter won on the 3rd hole after shooting a birdie. Shelly Clark won the ladies. Congratulations to both players and all our winners throughout the week. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.
