Torquay Golf Club – October 26, 2017

ON SUNDAY, a small field headed out in the morning as the afternoon was to be the final round of our golf week events. Taking out first place for the morning was Greg Dennis with 39 points. Robert Craig (Royal Melbourne GC) took out the guest comp. with 35 points. For the Mixed Ambrose results were gross winners Ross Duff, Margaret Hales, Philip Warne and Mar DeVries with 63. Nett winners Rod Brown, Emma Pearce, Taz Barr and Ruth Dickins had 53.125. NTPs to Barry Tippett, Geoff Caldwell, Michael Kearney, Chris Rudd, Leonie Roder and Marg Llewellyn, Michael Naughton won the TV NTP on the 15th and Sue Barnes got the jackpot. Straightest drives went to Rod Chappell and Marg Llewellyn. Thanks again to the Committee for all of their hard work during golf week. We had full fields of golfers from all over the district and they took home some great prizes. We hope to see everyone again the same time next year.

On Monday, we started some course works, as our hard-working ground staff was coring greens, tees and some fairways (as always at this time of the year) to get ready for the busy summer period. Thanks to Mother Nature it all went very well with some heat for the fairways then some rain just in time to help the growth. By Friday we were back in operation and looking out of the golf shop window we can see some very green fairways already. We now look forward to a great summer of golf for members and visitors alike. As always over summer make sure that you book in for a tee time so you do not miss out.

On Friday, Brian Baranski won A Grade with 38 points. B Grade went to Tony Strahan scoring 41 points and our C Grade winner Rick Vagnoni had 40 points. Anne Milligan shot 37 points to take out the ladies. NTPs to Steve May, Barry Shipsides and Dee Matheson and Marg Joyner hit the jackpot.

Stroke and monthly medal were played on Sunday and A Grade went to Doug Hutchinson with 70. Our medal and B Grade winner with a great score of 66 was Shaun Litaize. B Grade was won by Barry Leith on 69. Jenni Cottrill was our ladies medal and comp. winner with 74. The Resort win went to Henry Kelly shooting 40 points. Mary Hosking (Flinders GC) won the guest ladies comp. nett 79 and the men’s guest Garry King (woodlands GC) 73. NTPs to Justin Baker, Paul Cousins, Jenni Cottrill, Marina Naughton and Greg Giampiccolo, and Justin Baker won the jackpot.

On Sunday, Ron Fish took out the men’s competition with a great round of +7. Merle Whitnall had +1 to win the ladies’ comp. Guest winners were Julie Pilling +7 and Tech-Ian Chew +5. NTPs to Peter Forbes, Julie Pilling and Ros Matthews, and Ben Thomas hit the jackpot.
