Torquay powerhouse takes down opponent in Lilydale

Amy Turner, 16, with trainer and coach Ashley Lynch at a recent VABL event in Lilydale, which saw the young boxer score a victorious win.
TORQUAY boxer Amy Turner soared her way to victory in a Victorian Amateur Boxing League showdown held in Lilydale on Saturday April 6.
The 16-year-old – who trains at Torquay’s Coastal Boxing with coach Ashley Lynch – proved a force to be reckoned with, dismantling the opposition in three rounds.
Lynch said he believes Turner has the potential to become a “Torquay champion”.
“To be honest, I wanted Amy to take on a more experienced opponent. However, right from the bell, Amy’s confident and experienced Lilydale opponent of seven fights, Leah Haining, copped the boxing lesson instead,” he said.
“This was a shock to us all. I know Amy is a cool cucumber who is handy and resilient, but to win so convincingly against a rugged, seasoned boxer like Leah is really quite amazing.”
Turner will return to the ring on May 3 in Brunswick. For news and updates, visit facebook.com/TorquayCoastalBoxingandFitness or coastalboxing.com.
