TORQUAY Boardriders has received a call-up for the Australian Boardriders Battle and is ready to make it count.
After making the final of the national event in 2024, the club is fired up in their pursuit of going all the way and winning it this time round.
Club president Tully Wylie said the club was notified a fortnight ago of a spot opening up in the event.
“I was set in stone that we weren’t going which was disappointing after making the final last year.
“Luckily it came through. A Tasmanian club pulled out, and we got the call up.
“We’ve got a super-strong team, and we think it’s our best shot we’ve ever had to win it.”
Torquay will boost the talents of three World Challenger Series surfers in Wylie, Xavier Huxtable and Ellie Harrison.
Former world tour surfer Troy Brooks and junior Jarvis Barrow will also be in the team.
“I’m very confident in our abilities, particularly based on the similarity between Burleigh Heads and our right-hand point breaks at home.
“We are going to be coming in hot. Everyone is surfing so good. Hopefully we can prove to everyone why we are one of the best.”
Torquay is the third local club who will be participating in the event, with Jan Juc and 13th Beach earning a spot at the state qualifier in October last year.
The event will be held on April 12 and 13 at Burleigh Heads.
