Tradies Challenge postponed due to weather
EXTREME wind saw the Worksafe Tradies Challenge cancelled on the weekend.
The surfing event, which sees the best tradie surfers from around the state gather at Jan Juc Beach, got underway but was unable to completed.
A south-west front hit the beach which saw waves deteriorate and inevitably it was deemed unsafe to compete.
Contest Director Cahill Bell-Warren said the decision was always going to be made in the best interest of the competitors’ safety.
“The safety of our competitors and staff is of utmost importance,” Bell-Warren said.
“We had a beautiful morning with a fun-sized swell and clean offshore winds. However, when the front hit it was clear that the event could
not continue.
“Thank you to all competitors and event partners for their patience and assistance throughout the day.”
Competitors will be contacted over the next week with further details.
Round one of the Victorian Open Series was also set to be held at Jan Juc on Sunday, but was also postponed due to the weather.
