Geelong hosts Tri-State Championships

JUNIOR water polo players from across Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania came together over the weekend to compete in the annual Tri-State Championships at Kardinia Aquatic Centre.

Host team Geelong Junior Marlins had a memorable tournament, with four separate teams competing.

This included two Mixed Under 12 teams, one of which made the grand final.

Junior Marlins head coach Rebecca Talbot said the weekend highlighted the club’s growth.

“It was great. We had some great success from our four teams over the weekend.

“We’ve gone from six players, about two-and-a-half years ago, to 72 players now.”

About 30 teams took part in the tournament.

Talbot said it was a terrific effort from the club to host the event.

“It’s absolutely huge now and getting bigger and bigger each year.”

“We basically run three matches at once the whole weekend.”
