Uniforms unleashed to Torquay Coast juniors
A NEW chapter has begun at the Torquay Coast Basketball Club with the club receiving its new and long-awaited playing uniforms for all junior players.
Torquay Coast committee member Lindy Salter said it filled her with joy and an abundance of pride to see some of the junior Torquay Coast players wearing the new uniforms.
“It all started five years ago with just one team of boys in the Under 12s age group, the next season we had two teams, and we have since ballooned out to 13 teams. The new uniforms cap off that journey as a club,” Salter said.
The club’s new uniforms first arrived at the teams’ training sessions last Tuesday (May 16), allowing players their first chance to wear the uniforms since last week.
Each uniform features Torquay Coast’s signature blue colour and is based around the design of NBA franchise Golden State Warriors.
The uniform features Torquay’s signature Norfolk pine trees and groyne walls that are situated on the town’s Esplanade, coloured in yellow.
“It was a great result to retain our signature blue and the contrasting yellow colours on the new uniforms,” Salter said.
“They’ve turned out really well and the players from our younger brigade really loved them.”
Torquay Coast have winter competition sides in the Surfcoast Basketball Association at the boys’ Under 10, Under 11, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, and Under 18 level, as well as a girls Under 9 side.
“Our main focus as a club currently now is attracting more and more girls players,” Salter said.
“We have a dedicated team of coaches that make the sport enjoyable for all and we’re extremely excited at the prospect of a second girls’ side.”
