GEELONG United have bolstered their roster as the NBL1 South season approaches, announcing the signing of veteran NBL guard Lachlan Barker.

Barker brings a wealth of basketball experience to the group, and is currently playing with the Cairns Taipans after signing as a nominated replacement player

earlier this season.

The 29-year-old also played for Australia in the men’s 3×3 campaign last year and was part of Tasmania’s maiden NBL Championship in 2023.

After playing for the North West Thunder last NBL1 season, Barker moves across to United having averaged 18.5 points a game, indicating his strength at NBL1 level.

“Lachlan brings elite-level experience, professionalism and a strong two-way presence to our group,” Geelong’s post on social media stated.

“Known for his athleticism, work ethic, and defensive pressure, he adds exciting versatility and depth to our roster.”

Barker will be an important addition for United as they look to bounce back from a disappointing 2025 season.

They failed to make the finals and finished 17th with a 7-15 record, after an eighth-place finish in 2024.

The announcement comes as the season rapidly approaches, with United to start their season on March 27 against Hobart.

Fellow guard and long-time member of the Geelong squad, Demarcus Gatlin, has also re-signed for season 2026.
